Communication Skills

Healthcare workers

Effective communication in a nursing home setting or home healthcare differs from everyday conversation. Healthcare workers like certified nurse aides (CNAs) and home health aides (HHAs) must learn to speak slowly and clearly so patients can understand. Non-verbal communication is equally as important as verbal communication. Therefore, CNAs and HHAs also need to learn how their actions could be interpreted by patients.

Students at CareBridge Academy learn to use a soothing tone of voice. They choose their words carefully when interacting with patients. Students will also learn how to best communicate and interact with residents and patients with special needs. It also includes individuals that pose additional obstacles. Plus, students will learn how to listen to residents and patients. Listening is crucial to achieve proper patient care. Often, patients won’t understand the hierarchy of nursing and medical staff when they’re hospitalized or otherwise incapacitated. As a result, they will try to communicate important health information with nursing assistants or home health aides. This is because these are the healthcare staff members who attend to them most frequently.
