What are the admissions requirements to enroll in a CNA School in Philadelphia?

 

Here at CareBridge Academy, we work to ensure that admission requirements are in place to ensure that Nurse Aide CNA candidates can be successful in the program as well as in their new healthcare careers!

Below are the admission requirements for both applicants into our Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program as well as our Home Health Aide (HHA) class. To be considered for admission in a Home Health Aide or Certified Nurse Aide program, potential applicants must meet the below requirements upon enrollment:

 

  • Be at least seventeen (17) years of age with a valid picture identification or birth certificate. If under 18, must have a parent or guardian signature.
  • Provide the school with a two-step negative tuberculosis screening test done within the last year. Students can also provide a chest x-ray or blood test reflecting a negative tuberculosis screening within the previous five years. For the nurse aide training program, the tuberculosis screening test must be either a 2-step Mantoux or a chest x-ray evaluation per state regulations.
  • For the Nurse Aide Training Program: The candidate must have a physical examination prior to commencing the course. The exam must include evidence that the individual is free of any communicable diseases. Physical examination is not a requirement of the Home Health Aide Training. 
  • Have criminal background check clearance before the start of class which is free from any felonies or other prohibitive offenses. Please see the Admission Office for a list of prohibitive offenses. Applicants will submit to a PA state criminal history if they have resided continuously in the state of Pennsylvania over the previous 24 months. Otherwise, the applicant must submit to an FBI fingerprint clearance. 

 

Additionally, if applicant does not have a high school diploma or GED

 

  • Pass a reading entrance examination administered by CareBridge Academy which demonstrates the ability to read and comprehend the English language at an intermediate reading level (70 percent or higher).* This examination is done in person at the School’s location and is timed 15 minutes. Students will make an appointment with the School director to complete these entrance examinations as needed.
  • Pass a timed math entrance examination with at least a 70 percent passing score administered by CareBridge Academy which demonstrates the ability to perform basic math skills.*  This examination is done in person at the School’s location and is timed 15 minutes. Students will make an appointment with the School director to complete these entrance examinations as needed.

 

*These entrance examination requirements will be waived if the applicant has a high school diploma or equivalent.
